View from my porch

I really love my Hens and Chickens this year. They have grown so much. Best of all my Aunt Mildred gave me 2 and now my pot is full. Love them. Love mums
This is my favorite thing of the summer. Lowes had these this year in lots of retro colors. They were $98. I really didn't want to spend that, so then they were $75. Still a little steep for me. Last week I checked their home page and they were $49. That's what I was waiting for. The store nearest me had limited quantities. We ran right over. Looked all over and finally there it was. The only one left and the exact color I wanted. It was very hard to put together. Thomas had to help me finish and here it is.( It even came with a little extra green paint for touch ups.

Where Have I Been?

I have been a little obsessed with making scrapbooks. I had started these years ago and finally finished them. Lori wants to do books for Layla and Ruby. I'm still organizing her other pictures and putting them in albums. I'm one of those people that truly get obsessed with one thing and can't do anything else until I'm finished.

My next obsession will be finishing two quilts that are completely pieced and need to be quilted. It just has been too hot to finish those. But now the days are getting cooler and it's time.

He loved those Teletubbies

Ruby's first day at school

Hard to believe my baby is going to school. She's one that we thought wouldn't want to go. On the way to school she told her Mom "I told you I'm not ready to go to school yet". She got 2 strawberries taken away the first day for being defiant. But all is well now and she is loving it.

Thrift finds from the past 2 weeks

I haven't found a lot lately. I do love my Avon rooster. It was very dirty and still had the stinky lotion in it. Got it at Goodwill for $2.99. I've seen them in antique stores for $10 to $15. A few pretty pillowcases.
I really love these polka dot ones. I had a sheet with blue stripes and made this.

2 patterns, $.25 each.

Arranging Photos

Last week I worked on organizing my photos. Now I'm working on Lori's. She hasn't put any in albums since 1998. Most pictures were still in their original envelopes. I'm doing the organizing, then she will put them in albums (I hope) and do some scrapbooks.

These are the studio pictures, arranged by child and families.

This box is all wedding pictures.

Then by year.

The box on the left is the last to organize. Just a mixture of all years.

I don't know where 2000 is. Maybe their in the mixture box.

I made a dress

My friend Jenene gave me this fabulous fabric. She gave me lots more I will share later. I used the large size in Butterick B5488 (notice how slim it looks on the model). It is about 3 sizes too big. I took 1 inch more on each and an extra 1/2 inch on the tops of the sleeves. Still too big. I'm thinking of adding elastic in the waist. I love the look of the pleats ( it takes a long time to make them). I worked on this dress all day Friday and still not happy.

Girls got haircuts

School started yesterday for Layla and Jakob. They all got haircuts. Layla wanted bangs and she looks adorable. Ruby won't start pre-K until next month. She also got a cute cut.

Rugby sewing machine

Lori's father-in-law gave me this Rugby sewing machine. It was originally a treadle machine and a motor was added. The machine itself works, but no shuttle (bobbin). I guess there will be no sewing on it. The 2 drawers on the right are missing. I've looked on the internet and haven't be able to find much on a Rugby machine.

Chair Makeover

My husband gave me his computer chair. It needed a makeover to go in my sewing room. I laid the fabric over the chair and cut, then just started tucking in the fabric. I wasn't sure if it would work, but it did. Best of all no sewing required.
It looks beautiful. Like new.

Best of all it matches my valance.

Kylie's block

It's hard to believe that this is my last block. I've mailed out all 11 and made 1 for me. I'm really going to miss this. Can't wait to work on another quilting bee. As soon as I get my quilt made I will post it. Thanks Deb.

Jessica's block, new top and skirt for me

I love the sheets Jessica provided for the block. They are so soft and sweet. Hope she likes it.My new skirt is from a curtain I had made a fews ago. It makes a much nicer skirt.
The top was thrifted for $.99. I used this tutorial from My Mama Said. Very easy to make. I'm wearing both tonight when we go out to dinner with my step daughter and her family.

The Honey Pot

If you watch American Pickers's you know what they call a Honey Pot. Some people would say a Mother Lode. This Goodwill store in Dickson always has the best selection and they don't charge as much as the other Goodwills. They charge $1.99 for any sheet. The other's charge $2.99 for full and queen and $3.99 for king. I saw at least 3 more I wanted to get, but didn't. I couldn't tell you if any of them are vintage, but who cares (not me).

I think I'm going to use this as the backing on my Vintage Sheet Sewing Bee blocks. I fell in love with it. It is a full size sheet.
This is a queen size duvet that someone made and it is awesome. I'm using it on my bed. Also got a queen sheet like the flowered one to use for shams or curtains.
3 more beautiful sheets

7 pillowcases.

2 more blocks and 2 to go

It's hard to believe there are only 2 blocks to finish. I don't have the fabric yet, but can't wait to get started. It's so much fun to create a block. My points aren't perfect, but I try so hard to get them perfect.
This block is for Christina.

This is Ginger's block

Anissa's Block

This is Anissa's block. It will be traveling to Auckland, New Zealand which will take at least 10 days. Sheets from New Zealand are really beautiful. They're very different from the U.S.
