Repurposed Linens

I've been collecting vintage linens for years. I really love them all. I had been wanting a runner for my buffet table and just decided to use some of my linens. I measured the length and width then cut some fabric the correct size of the buffet. Then just started adding embroidery linens and used feather stitch on my sewing machine to attach them.  Hemmed the whole thing.

I love it.

Jessica's Apron

 Ruby is modeling an apron I made for my friend Jessica. She wanted this vintage sheet with ruffles, lace and anything else I wanted to add.  Ruby wants one exactly like it only a dress.

 Jessica doesn't know it yet, but I just had to make one for her little Charleigh Rose. I think she'll love it too.

Vintage Embroidery Idea

Made this necklace from a piece of embroidery scarf.  I added a small ribbon just because I thought it needed something else.

These frames came from Joann's.  Pretty cheap.  It has 2 pieces of glass and the little frame.

Just lay the frame on of embroidery. Draw around the piece and cut it out. Put between the 2 pieces of glass and add the frame. There you have it.

Tutorial for Sewing Machine Cover from Pillowcase

Heather from The Vintage Sheet Blog ask that I do a tutorial for a pillowcase sewing machine cover. It should be similar to the one I made here.  Here is my finished product.

Start by picking a pillowcase you like.  I like the ones that have borders.

The finished size should be 24.5" long and 18.5" wide. On this pillowcase I trimmed 5.5" inches from the top. (This will depend on the size of your pillowcase.

Then trimmed 3" off the side.

Turn inside out and sew .5" seam across the top and down the side. Then trim the corner.  Turn inside out and press.

I found some embroidery pieces from an old dresser scarf and cut out each individual one.  Position and  zig zag stitch around all the edges.

Here's a close up.

Cut 4 pieces of ribbon 9.5" long.  Measure down from the top 6" and measure bottom up 6".  Then sew the ribbon on the back side of the pillowcase.  (Two on each side of the pillowcase.

It should look something like this when you finish.

Tie ribbons in a bow and you have a sewing machine cover.

Thrifting Again

These thrifty finds are from the past few weeks of thrifting. Maybe finding one here and there.

 Loving the blue sheet.  I will include it in my new quilt I'm making for my bed.

4 adorable hankies never been opened.  They have yellowed some.

 I'll be selling this Holly Hobbie embroidery pattern.

Making this nightgown for me.  Someday.

Embroidered Pillows in my Shop

I've been working on these pillows for a while and now it's time to start selling them.  You can see them in more detail in my shop. I'm selling them for $18 each. All are made from vintage hankerchiefs, doilies, pillowcases and dresser scarves. The backs are all from vintage sheets.  I really enjoy making them and hate to part with them, but you can have too many. If anyone wants a special pillow made from items you have just contact me.

I still thrift

Sometimes I forget to post all of my thrift finds. I found all of these at an antique store really cheap. I really love this pretty dresser scarf.

I got 2 of these with the birds. They would make some lovely pillows.

Amazing embroidery finds

Over the weekend I found some amazing buys at yard sales around our area. Beautiful embroidery scarfs. One is has holes, but I'll put it to good use. I also found a new pair of keds leather shoes for $2.00 and a raincoat for $2.00. I had been looking everywhere for the perfect raincoat. It had to be lightweight, have a hood and pockets.

This one is a tablecloth. It was tough to iron, so I won't be using it a lot.

Pillow Tutorial

It's a lot of fun trying to find the right pieces for these pillows. The lady I'm consigning with suggested custom made pillows. Maybe pieces you have from loved ones that have passed (I did this with my sister's pieces for my niece and nephew).

1. First I lay out the main piece in the middle on a white piece of fabric (I used 14 x 14 white sheet), then start building around it.

Auditioning pieces as you go.

2. Start adding other pieces to fit around the edges.

3. Zigzag around each piece, so they won't ravel.

4. Straight stitch pretty lace around the edges (some of the pieces already had lace.)

5. Sew around the outside edges of pillow

6. Then add lace of chose. This lace was new, but I love adding older laces, maybe from pillowcases.

7. Sew right sides together ( I used a pretty pillowcase for the back) and leave opening at bottom for stuffing. Stuff and hand sew the bottom.

Pillows and Purses to consign

I'm working on a tutorial for my pillows. Hopefully by Saturday.

I know it's been over a week since I've blogged. I've either been babysitting or sewing. I'm been working on purses, and pillows ready to consign.
The purses are lined with pretty sheets and vintage buttons. The pillows are backed with some beautiful pillowcases.
