"Weekend Sewing" - Summer Blouse

Made the "Summer Blouse" from Weekend Sewing. It's more like a Winter Blouse. The fabric is flannel from my stash. I took Maggie's advice and made the placket a lot shorter. It was pretty easy to make. It takes longer to trace the pattern. I would definitely make another. Next time I would make it longer.

Antique Shopping

Vicky, Ashley and I went antique shopping last week. We didn't find much in our price range, but I did get the chickens. Got the doily at Goodwill today for $.99. It was in a picture frame. Very nicely done with a mat. I think it should have been $9.99, because most of the frames that size were, but I ask and they said .99. Just got a feeling it was a family heirloom. Why would they toss it out? My gain. (Sorry for the dark picture).

Elvis Skirt

My Aunt Lousie has given me lots of fabric, so I shared with Ashley. Pattern is Simplicity 2906. It only takes 7/8 yard of fabric if you make size 14 or below. Only took a half hour to make. It took longer than that to figure out what size she needed and cutting it out. I made it Saturday night while Vickie, Ashley and I watched Dirty Dancing. Picture is a little blurry, but she is lovely.

Doll clothes from baby clothes

Just finished these cute little doll clothes. Thanks to Obsessively Stitching. She does a great job. I finished 5 in an hour. These were mostly little shirts and dresses, so pretty easy. Hope you like them. The little chubby doll on the right was pretty hard to fit. But she didn't have any clothes that fit her. These were the baby clothes I bought here.

Weekend Sewing - Lounge pants

Maggie from Vingt Centimes and Liz from The Quilted Turtle are hosting a "Weekend Sewing" projects from Heather Ross's book. I decided to join and made these lounge pants for my niece Ashley. I had to change the pattern a bit. First of all she wanted the pants to hang on her hips. So I cut off 4 inches at the top. Then I added a drawstring instead of elastic. Made from one of my sheets she had picked out. When I got the sheet she wanted a dress from it. I started to cut it out and noticed white paint on the sheet. It just wasn't enough for the dress, but the pants work. Can't wait until she sees them.

Fall Inspirations

Fall is my favorite time of year. Layla suggested I put out my Fall stuff. It just makes me happy. So here it is.
This is Layla's arrangement
I made this in 2001 when I was laid off work. Debbie Mumm was featured on a quilting show and gave instructions.I also made this in 2001. I think it was in a quilting magazine.
Got this at Joann's last week. All of you candy corn junkies will love these.

Ruby's pillowcase dress

My little princess.
Made Ruby a dress from one of the pillowcases I embroidered. Will have to work on Layla's today. She wore a little shirt under it and looked so cute. We made a trip to McDonald's in her outfit. She's just not a social butterfly like Layla. There wasn't any other kids in there and she still didn't want to play.

Forgot about these thrifts

I wash everthing when I bring it home. So here are the cute hankies, a curtain of Dick and Jane, and baby clothes I'm using to make doll clothes, seen here.

Number 200 post and my thrifting

Hard to believe I have 200 post. Never thought I would make it to 10. I've really enjoyed my new blogging friends. I'll just keep on blogging.

I love this recipe box (although it does look like a cock fight) I'm sure it's really old. "Made In Japan". It was $2.00 at Our Thrift Store. The puppies are from Winchester Antique Store. They were $12.00. What the hay, it was my birthday. I also got 3 cute little hankies for $1.00 each. They're in the washer right now.

My Birthday Blouse

Made this top for my birthday. Didn't really need a reason, but anyway. It's from New Look 6892. The fabric is about 8 years old. Just enought to make this top. Super easy. By the way Hobby Lobby has Simplicity patterns for $.99 this week.

Weekend crafting

We did some projects today with our Martha Stewart Crafts. Got glitter everywhere. I even found glitter in a cereal bowl in the cabinet that wasn't opened today. The girls had to take a bath afterwards to get rid of it. But they had so much fun and so did I. Just make sure you have lots of newspapers on the table. The butterflies turned out really cute. They had them sealed in envelopes before I could get a picture. The butterfly on the table is one I did. Layla made a bluebird and dragonfly. Ruby did a caterpillar and a bee. Then they did the 2 photo frames for the fridge. Martha has a way to glue the pom pom's together, but the girls couldn't do that (core to core). I will redo them if they don't stick. Hope everyone else has as much fun as we did.

Thrifting and sad news from a friend

I love this dresser scarf. It's got a few spots I need to clean and fix. Not a good picture of the hen, she's not perfect. Can't wait to try those cute doll clothes.

Got the apron a few weeks ago. Love it.
Got this T-shirt transfer kit at "Tuesday Morning" (higher end Big Lots). Can't wait to try it out.
On a more somber note: The wife of a good friend of mine passed away yesterday. She had been battling colon cancer for a few years. They are expecting their first grandchild in November. They both wanted grandchildren so bad. I worked with him for many years. He is definitely a good guy and loved his wife dearly. Rest in peace Martha Lynn.

Cute Martha Stewart kits at Big Lots

I was reading Sarah's blog at Makin' Projiks and she found some of these great kits at Big Lot's. I usually get a sale paper but didn't get one this week, so I was very surprised. They were $2.00 each and had many more different ones there. Can't wait to get started on them.

My .99 top

This man's shirt was .99 from Goodwill. I used New Look 6677 . I really do like this pattern, great fit. I didn't have enough fabric to make the sleeves any longer and didn't want to use any more solid blue.

I've been pretty busy lately. Still painting and watching Ruby a few days. She's really good going shopping. She sees a lot of things she wants, but if I tell her "no" she's like "okay". I also kept all 3 Friday night and Saturday night. Jakob was sick last week. Doctor thought he had H1N1. They did a test and still don't have the results back. He was much better Saturday and today. It seemed to last about 3 days. I know the H1N1 virus last up to 7 days. He seems to be over it.

Ruby got a boo boo

Ruby was running through her house and hit the edge of her Mom's dresser. Lori took her to the emergency room. I met her over there and the little thing was so sweet and quiet. She just laid there and looked up at those nurses and the doctor. They were pretty amazed. It was a goose egg and cut. They put glue on it and the tape. As you can see she's doing great and still swinging.

Antique Store Finds

Found 2 new Antique stores to visit. They seem to have more reasonable prices than most. These 2 bowls were $2.50 each. They're for Lori. This little teapot was only $1.00. It has some chipped areas inside. I'm not going to boil tea in it. I just like hens and roostersGot all of these cute buttons. They were $2.00 for each bundle of buttons.

Got a bundle of these. They're all the same fabric. Guess I'll be sewing these together.Update on house painting. Still not finished. I've got the rest of my life.
