Painting Outdoors

I haven't felt very creative in the sewing area lately. The weather has been so nice I hate to stay indoors. I've been painting my son's house. I'm not much on climbing ladders, but I'm reaching what I can. Someone else will have to reach the top. We're thinking of adding vinyl siding someday. Then I won't have to paint again.

As you can see it's not the most beautiful house, but it's livable. I took this picture from my side porch. This is the part I haven't painted and not so sure about climbing on the ladder. I will try to finish painting the front today and show you later.

Aiden's doing well

Doesn't he look different? The other picture was from August 1st and these pictures were taken today. He's getting so big and he's such as sweet little thing.

My Big Girl Goes To School

It's been a slow and easy week. We have had such a great Summer. Not as hot as the usual Summers in Tennessee. Schools started last week. Layla's first half day was Friday and she loved it. She got to ride the school bus with Jakob. I picked her up at 12:30 and they had made gingerbread man, read a book about gingerbread man, and colored a gingerbread man. She goes again next Wednesday and then full days starting on Thursday.

Baby Aiden's Surgery

My sweet little great-nephew Aiden had surgery last Tuesday on the front of his head. He had craniosynostosis, where the forehead grows straight out and surgery had to be done so his brain would have the room it needs to grow. I saw him yesterday and it was doing so well and actually went home today. When the swelling goes down I'll get another picture. Thank God for the great surgeons at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Dollies new clothes

Ruby didn't bring her doll out today, but she got an outfit anyway (and panties). Layla's is the white dress (McCall's 5775) from a pillowcase I thrifted. The purple is fabric (Simplicity 7688) I've had a few years when Hancock Fabric closed in Franklin. They love these dolls a lot. Worth every penny.

I almost forgot

I finished some embroidery myself. These pillowcases for Layla and Ruby. Lori wants me to make dresses from them. So I will. I really enjoyed doing them. I used Aunt Martha's Hot Iron transfers. The lace on the bottom pillowcase is from one I thrifted before. The pillowcase was very thin and just tore to pieces.

Look at these .99 dollies

Got these adorable dolls for .99 each at Goodwill. I wanted to make them some clothes and fix their hair. They came over today and saw them on the couch (where I took the picture). I forgot to move them. Ruby would not put hers down for anyone. Layla did let me bring hers home, so I'll be making clothes for them.

Also got 2 hand embroidered pillowcases for $1.50 each, 2 scarfs for $1.50 each and apron for $2.00.

Great Weekend and sewing

Don't forget giveaway tonight at 6:00 CST.

I cooked dinner yesterday for all my family and it was pretty good. My sister still not feeling very well from her chemo so she didn't get to come (prayers needed).
Made Ruby a skirt from 2 bandanna's. She loves purple, so I thought this would be perfect. Guess what? she loves Sponge Bob more. These girls can wear each others clothes, so that's how I worked it out.

Also made these leggings from Halloween socks I found for a $1.00.

Layla's Skirt

Layla and I have been looking at Lera's blog "The Sky is Pink". She really loved all of the cute skirts and tops made for Spencer. I found these 2 Sponge Bob Bandanna's at Hobby Lobby yesterday and decided to make her a skirt like Spencer's.

I'm having a giveaway

It's time. I've got too much stuff. So I'll giveaway some of patterns I got and the pretty laces from Encores. Most of the laces had 4 yards in them. I'll never use all of that, so I just cut them in half. Leave me a comment and I'll have a grandchild draw Monday, August 10th at 6:00 PM CST. It's for everyone, even Deb in New Zealand.

More Encores & More

I happen to go to the sell on 1/2 price day and I seem to be the only one buying sewing notions. I found all of these beautiful ribbons and lace, elastic, velcro (I should have enought elastic to last a
lifetime) and hooks. I reallly don't need those bra extenders, but they are a good idea. Got all for $5.00.

Thrifting, Layla and Me

Got lots of things to show. All of these patterns came from Encores & More consignment sale this past Friday. All of the smocked patterns were in one pack and they were $5.00. Got these at Goodwill. I found a saucer once before so I guess it goes with this cup. I've decided this is the pattern I want to collect.
Pillowcases from Goodwill. Bonus picture of Layla and me. She wanted me to show her how the timer worked on my camera.

Deb has a giveaway

Deb from Works in Progress has a great giveaway. She has lots of vintage sheet scraps. Go by for a visit.

Happy 12th Birthday Jakob

Hard to believe my first grandchild is 12. My beautiful Lori was only 17 when he was born. She was just a baby herself. Some miracles aren't planned. They just happen.
He had a great party and was so happy with the electric guitar. He's pretty good at it. I'm sure he wouldn't want me to be showing all of these pictures. I won't tell if you won't.

A little Goodwill

I usually don't find many glass items, but today I found this cute bud vase. The bottom is marked "Hoosier Glass 4092". Does anyone know the year these were made? I found this on the internet but couldn't find any dates.
Also I found these 2 waterproof diapers. Little Ruby still has problems at night and naptime. I wanted to make some, but these were only $1.99 each at Goodwill. They seem pretty thick so I hope they work out.

Music City Thrifting

I can never turn down zippers. All of these were in one pack for $1.98 at Music City Thrift Store. I really like this place. They put a lot of small things in bags and mark it one price. Also got these sheets and pillowcases there. Got 2 of the Christmas pillowcases and want to make gowns for the girls for Winter. I did good.
Today I finished Ruby's quilt and guess what I forgot to take a picture. She wanted to take it home tonight so I'll get one this weekend.

Organizing again

Just can't help myself. I just have to have order in my sewing area and want to be able to see everything. I bought the button keepers at Joann's (40% off-$4.00 each). Already had the baskets and the shelf. I made the wall hanging button keeper with some fabric I had and a sheet of plastic from Joann's. Love it.

Fun at Chuckie Cheese

Little Ruby Blue Eyes
Layla's been wanting to go to Chuckie Cheese for a long time, so I decided it was time. Layla , Ruby and I went and Jakob stayed at my son Anthony's comic book shop "Outer Limits".Didn't get many good pictures of Layla. She was constantly moving. Ruby wouldn't make a move without me. A good time was had by all.

Ruby's quilt pieced

I pieced Ruby's quilt and now I've already started quilting. I'll be sure and show you when I'm finished. She's so excited and can't wait to cuddle up to it. My babies are spending the night and I'll be keeping them tomorrow. The girls are playing Barbies and Jakob is watching wrestling.
