Christmas finds at Goodwill

I went in to Goodwill today looking for Christmas things and that's what I found. This very cute tin (which I love). A huge bowl for adding ornaments and lights. I plan on adding some greenery.
This a cute little tin

I actually went in looking for a coffee mug tree and found this awesome ornament holder. Cups fit perfecting and ornaments too. I also got that cup in the front with the red designs on it.

Christmas Jewerly Hanger

Here's the very horrible before picture of my Christmas jewelry. They have always been crammed in a little box. I was just getting tired of searching and digging. Soooooooooooooo
I made my own personal Christmas jewelry hanger. I cut out a piece of Cross stitch Aida 11 count (14 count would be better). Then I hotguled the ribbon around the edges, hangers on each side and a bow on the front. Then add your jewelry. The aida cloth is pretty sturdy. I wanted something I could hang earrings and pins. It will only stay up about 28 more days. So hopefully it will last that long. Disregard the glue strings.

Ruby's horse outfit

My little sweet Ruby loves horses so she needed a horse outfit. I got the fabric especially for her at Joann's. I used Simplicity pattern 2483. It was very easy to follow. I lined the vest with this adorable flannel and she wanted to make it reversible. I just added buttons to each side and now I'll be making a skirt to match this. She picked out this vintage button from the buttons I won on Deb's giveaway.

Dress from a pillowcase

This little dress is from Simplicity 7988 and made from a pillowcase (just enough for a size 4). The facing for the armholes is from white fabric. Then I added the bow from some lace and added a little button. I hope a little girl from Haiti will love it.
I just had to add a little bow for the first dress I made. I added a little vintage button on this one.

Dresses for Haiti

A few weeks ago I saw this article in the paper and decided I wanted to help out. I've been wanting to do something like this. This is a few miles from me and will work out great. Their goal is to make 100 dresses. So far they have 75. I've got 2 pillowcase dresses that didn't sell on Etsy and I finished this dress today. The white borders are from a thrifted sheet. I used McCall's 5694.

Sweater bag

I found this great tutorial from Make it and Love it for a sweater sling bag. Mine did not quite turn out as great, but it's okay. I've found 4 wool sweaters for .99 each at Goodwill. This is a great winter bag. Check her out.

Tips for Easy Sewing

You never know when you may need some help. I found this at Goodwill last night for .99. As you see the original price was .75. The copyright is 1968. Here's a few of the pages. Lots of tips on how to look slim and tall or short and rounder. Some pages show necklines that flatter your face and some tips on pattern sizing. But different than today.

Skirt from a shirt and scarf from a sweater

I did some upcycles this week. This was an XL men's shirt (.99). Of course I don't have the before picture. I never seem to get that. I based it on this tutorial.I had started on these scarfs last Feburary before Vickie died. I had all of my .99 sweaters out and she wanted me to make her one from a pink sweater I had bought. I never made that. I just cut these collars off the tops of sweaters and there you have it. Just added some cute buttons.I got the idea from this tutorial.

Dress to a skirt

This dress was really beautiful. It was Vickie's and I really wanted to wear it. I am very long waisted and she was short waisted, plus it was tight at the top.

So I cut it just above the waist ( about 1.5 inches).

Then added this vintage binding my Mom gave me to the top edge.

Now it is a beautiful skirt and fits me perfectly. Maybe I'll get a picture with me wearing it later.
Love it.

My girls on Halloween. The vampire and the witchI haven't done as much thrifting lately. But I did find this rooster that I couldn't live without. The rooster bell came from an antique store.
